Over 300 lb to go. The split follows how competitors at his bodyweight divide their total, which puts the smallest share on the bench and the most on the squat and deadlift: train those two twice a week and keep the bench where it is.

Very few women competitors reach 1,000 lb, which is why challenges set lower targets for women: 500 lb at one gym's board, 600 lb in Boostcamp's challenge. At 635 lb she clears both. For a goal on her own scale, rank the total on the strength standards page.

Twenty-five pounds is one training block. His bench is close to the median for raw competitors his size, while his deadlift is furthest below it, so that's where the block should push: deadlift first in the session, two heavy days a week.
Among raw full-power competitors on OpenPowerlifting, 74% of men have a best meet total of 1,000 lb or more, and 3% of women. Competitors are a stronger-than-average group: people who trained for and finished a meet. So the club is a milestone for a gym lifter and a typical result for a man who competes.
Bodyweight changes the picture more than anything. Under 60 kg (132 lb) about 1 in 9 male competitors has made it; past 90 kg (198 lb), almost 9 in 10 have.

What counts toward the 1,000-lb club?
No federation owns the club, so the rules are whoever is keeping the list. Strength Origins' leaderboard takes all three lifts within 7 days, with squats to at least parallel, a bench that touches the chest and locks out, and no straps or trap bar on the deadlift. Boostcamp's 2024 challenge was stricter on time: all three lifts within one hour, a one-second pause on the bench and the hip crease below the knee on the squat.
A meet total settles it, since every lift is judged. For a gym total, film every lift from the side with the plates in view and squat to the depth you would be judged on.
Which lift to push
The split in the result gives each lift the share of the gap that its median takes for raw competitors your size. For men at 75 to 82.5 kg that is a 180 kg squat, 120 kg bench and 211 kg deadlift, so the bench gets under a quarter of the pounds.
If your bench is already a bigger share of your total than that, the cheaper pounds are in the squat and deadlift. The strength ratios calculator shows which lift is behind the other two, and the button under your result builds a session around all three.
How the gap is split
Your total is squat plus bench plus deadlift, converted to pounds. The pounds left to 1,000 are split across the three lifts in proportion to the median squat, bench and deadlift of raw competitors in your sex and bodyweight class, each rounded up to a whole pound so the targets always reach 1,000.
The default inputs are a 180 lb man, which is the 75 to 82.5 kg class: median squat 180 kg, bench 120 kg, deadlift 211 kg, 511 kg together.
add to a lift = pounds left × (class median of that lift ÷ class median of all three)
315 + 225 + 405 = 945 lb, 55 lb left
squat 55 × 180 ÷ 511 = 19.4 → +20 lb
bench 55 × 120 ÷ 511 = 12.9 → +13 lb
deadlift 55 × 211 ÷ 511 = 22.7 → +23 lb

Barbell Back Squat
Quads, Glutes, Adductors
Most 1,000-lb lists want the hip crease at or below the top of the knee. A squat that gets shallower as the weight climbs adds pounds that won't count, so test at the depth you'll be judged on.
How to do it
Set the bar at about armpit height, step under it and rest it on the meaty part of your upper back, hands just outside your shoulders.
Stand up to lift it off the hooks and take two or three short steps back.
Set your feet about shoulder width, toes turned slightly out, then breathe deep into your belly and brace.
Sit straight down between your heels, knees moving forward and out in line with your toes, until your hip crease passes below the top of your knee.
Drive up through your midfoot with your chest and hips rising at the same speed.
Cues
Big breath and brace before every rep
Knees out over your toes
Chest and hips rise together
Common mistakes
Squats getting shallower as the bar gets heavier: film from the side and count only reps below parallel.
Hips shooting up first out of the bottom: drop the load and push your upper back into the bar as you stand.
Challenges ask for the bar to touch the chest and lock out, some with a pause. Bounced reps inflate the max you plan from, so train the version you'll be judged on.
How to do it
Lie on the bench with your eyes just under the bar and plant your feet flat.
Pull your shoulder blades together and down into the bench, glutes on the pad.
Grip the bar a little wider than shoulder width and lift it out so it sits over your shoulders.
Lower it under control to your lower chest, elbows about 45 degrees from your sides.
Touch your chest without bouncing, then press up and slightly back toward the hooks.
Cues
Shoulder blades pinned
Elbows at 45 degrees
Touch, then press
Common mistakes
Bouncing the bar off the chest, which adds pounds the muscles didn't earn.
Lifting the hips to finish a rep: that rep doesn't count.
The deadlift carries the most pounds of the three. Lists that ban straps and the trap bar want a straight bar pulled with your own grip, so train your grip with the bar you'll test on.
How to do it
Stand with your feet about hip-width apart and the bar over the middle of your feet.
Hinge and bend your knees just enough to grip the bar right outside your legs.
Bring your shins to the bar, lift your chest until your back is flat, and pull the slack out of the bar.
Push the floor away and keep the bar against your legs; once it passes your knees, drive your hips forward to stand tall.
Lower by pushing your hips back first and set the bar down under control.
Cues
Bar over midfoot
Pull the slack out first
Push the floor away
Common mistakes
Letting the bar drift away from your legs, which loads the lower back.
Yanking the bar off the floor instead of building tension first.
Enter your best recent single for each lift, or estimate it from a hard set of 3 to 5 with the one-rep max calculator. A max from a year ago plans a block you can't start.
Bank pounds on one lift at a time
Adding to all three at once spreads recovery thin. Put one lift in a heavier phase and hold the other two at their working weights.
Test on separate days if the rules allow
Lists with a 7-day window let you take each lift fresh. A one-hour or meet-day rule means practicing all three in one session first.
Count kilograms honestly
1,000 lb is 453.6 kg. A 455 kg total clears it; 452.5 kg does not, however close it looks on the plates.
Bodyweight is part of the plan
The share of men in the club climbs with every bodyweight class. If you're light and lean, gaining some muscle is a legitimate part of the plan, not a detour from it.
Questions
What is the 1,000-lb club?
Your best squat, bench press and deadlift adding up to 1,000 lb (453.6 kg) or more. It's a gym and online milestone, not a federation title.
Do all three lifts have to be done on the same day?
It depends on who is counting. Strength Origins' list allows 7 days, Boostcamp's 2024 challenge required one hour, and at a meet every lift is judged.
Is the 1,000-lb club impressive?
For a gym lifter it's a real milestone. Among men who compete in raw powerlifting it is common: 74% of them have totalled 1,000 lb, so it's a starting point there rather than a finish line.
What's the 1,000-lb club for women?
There's no fixed standard. One gym's board uses 500 lb and Boostcamp's challenge used 600 lb. About 3% of women raw competitors have totalled 1,000 lb.
Does a trap bar deadlift or box squat count?
Not on the lists we checked: Strength Origins bans the trap bar and box squats, and Boostcamp requires a straight bar.
How do I get to 1,000 lb faster?
Train each lift two or three times a week, add weight whenever your sets finish with more reps left than planned, and put the most work into the lift furthest behind. The progressive overload calculator plans the jumps.
Log load, reps and RIR on every squat, bench and deadlift set and RIRLift keeps each lift's estimated max current, then sets the next session's loads so the gap keeps shrinking.
Finally a lifting app that doesn't try to be a social network. Being able to track reps, weight, and RIR straight from my Apple Watch during a set is super smooth.
